Suggested towns to stay in
Kaneohe, Kailua, Lanikai (east side) are all adjacent to each other and would be the quickest and easiest housing near the yacht club. Vacation rentals, bed & breakfasts, and the YWCA group dorm style housing are the best options in this area. There aren’t really any hotels on this side of the island.
Honolulu, Waikiki (south shore) will have more options with hotels, however can be anywhere from 2045+ minutes driving time due to traffic in/out of the city. There are a wide variety of hotels and price ranges in this area and would be best to use a hotel booking website to browse hotels, as there are so many to choose from.
It would be ill advised to stay anywhere too far west of Honolulu or Kaneohe as driving time can be long. Airport Honolulu (HNL) is the only commercial airport on the island and a 30 minute drive from the Yacht Club.
Rental cars can be very affordable and booked through several agencies at the HNL airport and is the recommended mode of transportation. http://hawaii.gov/hnl/groundtransportation/carrentals
